My Litigation Experience

I am a career litigator with experience trying and managing cases in 26 states and the District of Columbia.

My career began defending neglience and products liability claims, with later emphasis on construction cases and general commercial litigation. Spending several years with one of the most prominent litigation firms in the country, I was privileged to work on several cases of national importance. In 1994. I moved to a nationally respected boutique firm where I spent the next 20 years litigating legally and factually complex cases throughtout the United States.

At each stop, I took time to write about trial work in professional journals and treatises. I have been an author for the two largest legal publishers in the naiton and am especially proud of several years spent as the editor and revision author for Virginia's standard civil procedure treatise.

With our daughter educated and on her own, my wife and I moved to Middlesex County in 2014, where we live overlooking the Piankatank River. During almost a decade as a partner in a respected Northern Neck firm, my trial practice focused primarily on real estate, riparian, and maritime disputes. That emphasis has continued in my own office, along with increasing amounts of fiduciary litigation.

My recent cases have included claims for damage to a famous historic vessel and the widely reported successful defense of a multi-million dollar martitime suit in federal court.

Land use cases involving shoreline management and riparian rights are a significant part of my current case load. I also have frequent business before the Virginia Marine Resources Commission.

I am honored to have been chosen repeatedly as a Super Lawyer and for recogition in Virginia Business Magazine's list of Legal Elite.
